The tricky bit about raw footage

Raw footage is something we get asked about from time to time, and I always feel a little bad telling people that we don’t offer the raw footage in our package.  Some people are disappointed by that.  But we have a really good reason for not offering that footage: it isn’t something you’ll want to watch.  If you’re looking for that fleeting glimpse of your Great Aunt as she eats her cherished slice of wedding cake, it may or not be in the raw footage. You can rest assured though, that if I have a really cute shot of your Great Aunt, it will be in the final edit.  And if there are special people or things that you know you want in your video, just let us know, and we’ll shoot it.  We’ve been hired by you, to shoot for you!

For a typical wedding, we shoot anywhere from six to ten hours of footage.  We’ll usually edit that down to a 30 minute highlight video of your entire day.  This works out to about the same balance for motion pictures.  It takes four to six months to shoot a standard 90 minute film.  A lot of that raw footage gets thrown out for the sake of keeping the story and the pace moving so that you don’t get bored watching the movie.  We look at our edits the same way.  We want it to be a retelling of your wedding day, but we also want it to be something you’ll show your family 20, 30, or even 50 years from now.  If it’s boring, then you won’t want to watch it again, and that’s the last thing we want.

So we really look at it like the raw footage is just that, raw.  If it’s a good shot, then we’ll get it into the edit.  After all, that’s what we’re there for.  We’ll get the shots that will make your wedding story great.  And watching shots of the floor, trying to focus, or seven attempts to get the perfect cake shot just won’t be entertaining to watch.  We’d hate to charge you extra just to sit through shots that should be on the cutting room floor.

Mandy and Ryan’s wedding day was so lovely…they had picture perfect weather. We started off the day shooting at Mandy’s Matron of Honor’s house and what a great, welcoming family she has! There was make-up, Mamosa’s and lots of laughs! Their ceremony was at Holy Family Church, a gorgeous Catholic church down in Poland, and then we went down to the park for some fun pics with Ken Love Photography. Then it was time to relax and party at The Georgetown in Boardman where everyone ate well and danced the night away to the tunes of Special Request.

We’re so glad Mandy and Ryan had a great day, and thanks for asking us to be a apart of it…we loved getting to know you both! :-) Password: MandyRyan

A nice thank you note from the bride:

Hey there! What can I say…you guys are the best. We loved the video, it was totally our personality. You guys did a fantastic job. Thanks so much again for all of your patience, hard work, and talent.

Yesterday, Bob and I celebrated our 3 year wedding anniversary and since we’re always sharing others wedding videos…we’d thought it would be fun to share our wedding day video. :-) It brought some happy and sad tears to my eyes, since my father passed away a few month after our wedding…I feel very fortunate that I have those moments captured forever. (we did not shoot this video, it was shot and produced as part of our wedding day package at the Venetian)

Nicole and Mikey’s fall wedding was a bit chilly, but the sun kept shining. They are an amazing couple with great friends and family. The ceremony was lovely, and intimate outside in the Metroparks at Happy Day Lodge with all the beautiful fall colored leaves in the background, it was absolutely perfect…plus they both wrote their own vows which I think makes a ceremony so wonderfully personal. Did some creative photos/video in the park and at the hotel…We really enjoyed shooting with Stephanie & Shannon of 831 Photography what a blast! The couple and bridal party was so relaxed and having fun that it made the shots that much better. Their reception was in one of the rooms over looking the Cuyahoga River at the Sheraton Suites, which was so romantic and beautifully decorated in her themed green. Then they danced the night away thanks the rockin’ tunes of DJ Scott Jones (if you look you’ll catch him dancing in the video too :-) )

Fun Side Note: Best Man’s speech wins for the best ‘best man’ speech of our 2009 weddings!

The amazing vendors we worked with that day include:
Reception Location: Sheraton Suites in Cuyahoga Falls
Minister: Rev. Dr. John Schluep (what a great guy!)
Ceremony: Happy Day Lodge
DJ: Scott Jones of Jerry Bruno
Photographer: Stephanie & Shannon of 831 Photography

Best wishes to Nicole & Mikey,  thanks for asking us to be apart of your awesome wedding day…We had such a great time hardly felt like we were working!

Here’s an awesome review we just got from the Bride’s mom on Wedding Wire!

First and foremost I have to say that when we talked about hiring a videographer we had to convince the father of the bride that it was money well spent, as the mother of the bride I knew this would not be an easy task because he was not happy as his frame of mind was “haven’t we spent enough?”, well after meeting with Bob and Krista he was more on board, during the wedding itself he realized how wonderful this dynamic duo was and mentioned several times that he sure hopes the product is as good as the service. We received our DVD’s packaged so beautifully on Sunday evening – my daughter and new son-in-law of course got to see it first….I picked up my copy Monday and though I should have waited I couldn’t and watched it late into the night. I realized after about 30 minutes that I had gone through tears and laughter and that my face was in a constant grin….I can’t wait for my husband to get home from a business trip so we can watch it again. THE BEST MONEY SPENT was spent with Bob and Krista – we love them and will shout their names from the roof tops.

Kari & George’s wedding day was picture perfect..sunny and 75 it was a gorgeous day for such a wonderful couple. They had a beautiful ceremony filled with traditions from both their father’s who are ministers in different churches. George’s Dad preformed the Orthodox part of their ceremony and Kari’s Dad, a Southern Baptist Minister, preformed the second part. It was very special to see all that come together, and I love when couple write their own vowes. We then headed downtown to Voinovich park which is such a beautiful place for photos with Nattalie Roepke, then off again to LaCentre for their amazing reception full of surprises and the rockin’ tunes of  Grand Avenue Band…you gotta watch!

A few of the vendors we worked with that day include:
Reception Location: LaCentre
Ceremony: Lakewood Congregational Church
Band: Grand Avenue Band
Photographer: Nattalie Roepke

This past summer we were lucky to be a part of Melissa and Keric’s wedding day. They had such a beautiful Greek ceremony filled with traditions, symbolism and I especially enjoyed the chanting during the ceremony. Keric’s Dad was one of the 3 priests that conducted their ceremony and added such kind closing words to the happy couple. After the ceremony we all headed over to Prime at Anthe’s in Canton for great food, lots of family and fun! They danced all night long to many of the traditional Greek dances, and everyone just had blast! Flying money and broken plates…OPA!

Ceremony: Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox
Band: Karizm Orchestra
